Unholy Embrace vampire novel by Neil Benson - a fight to death with werewolves

Frank describes an encounter with werewolves of the worst kind.
Nessa ran at a werewolf that charged her. They collided and fell to the ground.

The creature staggered from the impact, and she grabbed it by the throat with both hands. It thrust its jaw out, trying to bite her face with its large canines.

She pushed its head back until the creature couldn't reach her with its mouth.

The werewolf grabbed at her arms to no avail as she tightened her grip until she broke its neck. Nessa pushed the werewolf to the ground, stood over it, and snarled. The moonlight revealed blood dripping from her fangs.

I scanned the area to check for more werewolves. Seeing none, I took a deep breath and realized my shirt was wet. When I put my hand to my chest, I felt the warm, clotting fluid mingled with tufts of hair. I was glad my stomach was empty when I gagged. I started to speak to Nessa when I saw her turn and walk toward the other side of the building. I went around the car, following a step behind but parallel to her.

A cloud covering the moon prevented me from seeing what caught her attention. When the cloud passed, the moonlight revealed a huge, heavily muscled werewolf, seven feet tall. The creature growled, revealing three inch-long, curved canines that came to sharp points. The enraged werewolf was the alpha male......

The House on Blackstone Moor by Carol Gill - reviewed by Neil Benson

The House on Blackstone Moor by Carol Gill

The author invites the reader to a gripping Victorian era tale of horror on the first page. We meet Rose,a young woman, after she discovers that her father killed her mother and sister and then himself. Rose is so grief-stricken others must take care of her. Unfortunately for Rose, "care" is a trip to the insane asylum.

Rose encounters new horrors during her stay at the asylum. The author has the unique ability to put us inside Rose's head so we see her world through her eyes and experience her tragic tale as if it were our own. The head of the hospital, Doctor Bannion, rescues Rose from the asylum by taking her to the Dartons. They employ her as a governess for their two children.

At first, it seems that Rose has found a refuge from the horrors she has experienced. She has great affection for the children she cares for, and they for her. She falls in love with the Louis Darton, who returns her affection. But all is not as it seems, and Rose slowly learns the true nature of her situation.
Rose sees the children commit a horrible act, but she refuses to accept what they did. When she sees a vampire doing what a vampire always does, Rose realizes she is in the midst of horror and evil on an immense scope. The author creates a time and place and characters that are not for the faint of heart.

Ms. Gill uses "sacred" portions of vampire lore in new ways. To reveal them would be to say too much. As Rose plunges deeper into the evil maelstrom, she makes decisions that change her very essence. She moves to the dark of her own accord, and the hellish nature of the events in her life worsen. Louis Darton rescues her time and again, but he is part of the darkness.

Gypsies aid and befriend Rose in her fight to survive the onslaught of evil forces. The battles between the forces who seek to destroy Rose and those who protect her rage to the end of the novel. The immensity of the evil that Rose encounters grows greater and greater. At the end of the novel Rose must make the final decision about her fate.

Blackstone Moor is a creative and imaginative novel. It is well-written and the author demonstrates a mastery of the subject matter. The plot is complex and the characters are well delineated. The author created a horror novel best not read before going to sleep.

Unholy Embrace a Vampire Novel by Neil Benson

In the last post, we met Frank, a tall, young architect who learns that the beautiful woman he is sitting with in a bar with is a real vampire. She suggests they go to Frank's place. He agrees, providing evidence of the old saying "When the little head wakes up, the big head goes to sleep."

“You’re an exceptional man.” Her gaze caught mine, telling me that she was not playing any more.
“That’s quite a compliment.” I got the impression she measured me in ways I didn't understand.
“May I look through your library?” she asked, examining my bookcases.
“Sure.” I was uneasy with her tendency to ask permission after the fact.
She looked at the titles for several minutes then pulled out Dr. Bova’s book on immortality and extending life. “Immortal life holds a fascination for you,” she said. “You’ll find living a long time doesn’t bring the answers to the questions you seek.”
“Am I to assume you know that from personal experience?”
She put her finger under my chin and kissed me on the lips. “I’ve seen the passing of more seasons then you could ever imagine. Perhaps, if I like you, I’ll tell you about them.”
“That would be interesting.” I'm being seduced by a vampire. Am I out of my freaking mind?
“Hush,” Nessa said, as if she could hear my thoughts. She brushed my cheek with her fingertips, pressed her lips to mine, and parted them with her tongue.

Unholy Embrace a vampire novel by Neil Benson - in the eyes of a vampire

A mortal, Frank, enters a wannabe vampire bar in Manhattan and finds himself scrutinized by a beautiful real vampire.
“You're not an overgrown boy or a self-styled stud eager to add me to his sexual trophy case.”
“You can tell that just by looking at me?”
“That and much more.”
“Okay, tell me what you know.” Her gaze caught mine as I issued the challenge.
“You're an architect in his mid-thirties who would rather be a painter,” she said without hesitation. She leaned back in her chair, steepling her fingers, her bright green eyes studying my every move.
“How do you know that?” Was she a mind reader or something?“There are traces of light green ocher paint under the nails of your index and middle fingers on your right hand.” I couldn't see anything, even when I held my nails under a light.
“I have excellent vision, especially at night.”
“There's nothing there to see,” I said.
“You failed to wash off all the ocher and pale yellow egg tempera paint you used.” She licked her lips.
Nessa had just described the colors I had been working with earlier in the evening. “I don't know how you guessed what I was using, but there's no way anyone could see the paint in this dim light.”
“A vampire could.” She leaned forward, opening her mouth, and showing the tips of sharp pointed fangs.
“Are those real?” I asked in a voice barely a croak. My heart beat faster and the hairs on the nape of my neck stood up.

Unholy Embrace vampire novel by Neil Benson - a journey beneath the streets of Manhattan

Strange creatures lurk beneath the streets of Manhattan where Nessa takes Frank on their quest to find the demon. ***********

In a few minutes, a train wheeled into the station, and everybody but us got on it. When the train pulled away, she checked to see if we were alone. Using her fingertips, she lifted the metal plate a couple of inches off the floor. Then she grabbed hold of it with both hands and set it two feet away from the hole.

I looked into the hole and saw the concrete platform twenty feet below us. “How do we get down there?”

“First I jump, then you jump, and I catch you.”

“What?” My heartburn got worse. I doubted there was any antacid in the backpack

“What did I say that you didn't understand?” She frowned.

“I understood what you said. It's the plan I’m wondering about.”

“There's a rope in the backpack, but nothing to tie it to. Besides, could you climb down the rope?”

“Point taken. I feel awkward about jumping and having you catch me.”

“Get over your male vanity. Please do what I ask you.” She rolled her eyes. “Put on your backpack and jump.” She turned and jumped through the hole, landing on her feet so as if she was a trained acrobat. She looked up and motioned for me.

I took a deep breath and jumped into her waiting arms. Nessa caught me and put me on my feet. I followed her when she walked toward the south end of the deserted platform. She walked on the balls of her feet, like a hunter tracking down her prey
